I hope United can win by 2 goals. 3-1 maybe? We need Ronaldo, Rooney, Scholes, Giggs and Carrick in top form and our defence in full alert for Kalou's bursting runs and Lamps wicked shots. Mr. Green

Chelsea and Manchester United do battle for the FA Cup in the first final at the new Wembley on Saturday.

This match-up is seen as the dream final by many as the top two from the Premiership lock horns again for the most famous trophy in world football.

Manchester United are aiming to claim a fourth domestic Double having won the Premiership title ahead of Chelsea.

Chelsea were the last club to win the FA Cup final at the old Wembley in 2000 and they are determined to end United's double dreams.

The FA Cup is the only domestic trophy Jose Mourinho has failed to win so far during his time at Chelsea and he will be hoping to add it to their Carling Cup success from earlier this season.

This season's two meetings between the giants ended in draws, but Mourinho boasts a good record against Sir Alex Ferguson having lost just one of eight clashes against the Scot.

Chelsea go into the game with a crippling injury list with Mourinho claiming he only had 15 players available to pick from.

Ricardo Carvalho, Michael Ballack and Andrei Shevchenko have all been ruled out through injury.

In the absence of Carvalho, Michael Essien is set to start in central defence alongside Blues skipper John Terry.

Arjen Robben is expected to be on the bench after recovering from a knee injury.

Ashley Cole will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness as he struggles with an ankle injury with Wayne Bridge standing by to replace him.

John Obi Mikel is set to undergo a late fitness test as he looks to shake off a thigh problem.

Manchester United are missing Gary Neville and Louis Saha for the trip to Wembley.

Wes Brown and John O'Shea are both battling it out to take Neville's place at right-back.

Ryan Giggs will take over the captain's armband from Neville as he looks to win his fifth FA Cup winners' medal.

Ferguson also has a selection dilemma at left-back with Patrice Evra and Gabriel Heinze vying for the spot.

United chief Ferguson must also decide what formation to play as he could decide to bolster his midfield with the inclusion of Darren Fletcher or opt to give Alan Smith a start in attack.

United's Player of the Season Cristiano Ronaldo is in line to make his 150th start for the club against Chelsea.

Vidic's Wembley delight

Nemanja Vidic admits he feared injury would prevent him from playing a part in Saturdays FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.

The Serbian defender missed the whole of April after fracturing his collarbone as he jumped to meet a corner in the game with Blackburn on 31 March.

But his determination and desire to get himself fit for the final part of the campaign run-in has ensured he will be in the starting eleven for Saturdays showpiece.

After I got my injury I was a bit scared that I would miss the most important games of the season, Vidic, who returned to action against AC Milan earlier this month, told ManUtd.com. But I did my best to get myself fit as soon as possible after and Im happy to be back.

Games like Saturdays are the kind that you work so hard for in training every day matches against big teams and big players on the biggest stage. Im excited to be playing at the new Wembley and itll be great to be involved in a game that will go down in history. I just hope at the end of the ninety minutes we will have the trophy and the Double.

Vidic and his defensive partner Rio Ferdinand will be the men entrusted in keeping Didier Drogba quiet on Saturday afternoon. The Blues striker has been in scintillating form this season, netting 32 goals in the process. Vidic is relishing the task ahead of him, but is quick to point out Chelseas overall quality.

Drogba is a great player who has scored a lot of goals and itll be tough to play against him, but they have great players throughout their team, insists the 25-year-old. A team isnt just about one player. It doesnt matter who plays because they have great quality. I just hope I can do my job well.

After a tough settling-in period at Old Trafford the Serbian international has established himself as one of the finest defenders in English football this season. And his partnership with Rio Ferdinand has been hailed as the best in the country.

Weve had a good season but its not just down to the two of us, insists Vidic. The rest of the defence has helped us, as have the whole team we defend as a team and attack as a team.

My first couple of months at United were tough and last summer I did worry that I might not make it here. I wouldnt say I was scared, but I lost a bit of confidence. When that happens you start to miss passes that youve never missed before, things like that. Its therefore important to be mentally strong at a big club like Manchester United.

Im very happy with how the season has gone for me, he continues. I think Ive played some good games, but Im always looking at things I need to improve upon. I want to keep improving in every match. I hope I can continue to improve and play even better next season.

Cole Dropped For Final - Reports
Fri 18 May, 05:09 PM

Ashley Cole has reportedly been dropped from the Chelsea team for Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester United by boss Jose Mourinho.

The Evening Standard claims that the full-back has suffered the 'heartbreak' of being left out in favour of Wayne Bridge.

'The defender has done everything possible to be fit for the Wembley showpiece but Mourinho will not risk throwing him into a duel with Cristiano Ronaldo,' the newspaper reports.

'Cole has been struggling with an ankle injury and has put off an operation in order to be involved in the Final. An injection will be required for Cole to play any part in the game and he will have surgery after the Final but his failure to recover sufficiently to start will be a big blow.'

Bridge has been outstanding recently while Cole has struggled with his ankle injury.

But despite his second-string status, Bridge has never once hammered on Mourinho's door asking to quit.

Bridge said: "I want to play football and that is all about pressure every time you go out there.

"Ever since I've been here I have been playing with better players. It is totally different and I have enjoyed it - I just love it here.

"I have not knocked on his (Mourinho) door at all. I want to play every game, the same as everyone. It's all about working hard. I have tried to be the best I can and not let anyone down.

"I never wanted to leave here, I always loved it here. Even after Ashley came in I wanted to compete for my place.

"If I hadn't have played as many games it might be different, but I have played a lot."

Bridge cannot hide his enthusiasm at being among the first players to be involved in an FA Cup final at the new Wembley, but he refuses to get worked up over his chances of making the starting XI.

He added: "I am very excited to be going to Wembley. I feel like I have played well and it would be nice to be able to carry on.

"I want to play every game, everybody does. But it is down to the manager and whoever doesn't play will be disappointed.

"It's not a nervous time, I am happy to be here. I am happy to be going to the final but if I don't play from the start, I will play at some point.

"I don't know if Ashley is definitely going to have the operation. But I think I have done myself justice, I have done well and I have shown I can compete with him and hopefully I will keep doing that.

"I have played more games than I thought I was going to play. I could have been pushed aside but I have played a lot of games.

"I have just kept working hard, that's what everyone does here. When you play you have to make sure you have a good game and do well for the team and I think I have done that. "

DENIS IRWIN believes Manchester United will be hailed as a truly great team if they complete the Double to end all Doubles. The Old Trafford full-back legend says Chelsea have raised the bar so high in the Premiership because of their incredible buying power that a league-and-FA Cup combination is harder to achieve.

Irwin, 41, said: Im sure Sir Alex Fergusons first title in 92-93 was massive. But, with United being written off slightly over the past two or three years, with Arsenal winning the title undefeated and then Chelsea taking it twice, Im sure the manager will feel this title was as good as any. If he does do the Double, it would be as big as any Double he has done. It would be the Double to end all Doubles.

Fergie is bidding for his fourth Double, after achieving that feat in 1994, 1996 and 1999. The most recent triumph became a Treble when United also won the Champions League.

Man U isn't as dominant as they were when Irwin was still playing there. Something Fergie has learnt over the past few seasons.
